Pas Anfas: guarding the breath
What pas-i anfas is, where it appears across the orders, how it is practised, what practitioners report, and which popular claims the sources do not support.
-
The Qadiri silsila and Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani
Jilani's surviving works teach vigilance of the breaths, not a breath technique. The technique enters the Qadiri line later, and the sources say so.
-
What the studies on dhikr breathing show
The research closest to pas anfas is small and uncontrolled. Here is what each study did, what it can and cannot show, and which popular numbers failed a check.
How claims are marked
Every paper separates what was checked from what was only repeated. The marks are thread, and each one also says its meaning in words.
- Verified (verified in a primary source)
- Seen in a primary text or the original study. A running stitch.
- Unverified (unverified)
- Reported, not checked, or contested. A loose thread, with a question mark.
Discarded (discarded)- Checked and found unsupported. Crossed out, and kept so nobody repeats it.
